Throwing parties for multiple kids of the same age can be a daunting task, especially when trying to keep costs down. As a parent, I’ve found that instead of extravagant birthday parties, opting for holiday celebrations at home can be both budget-friendly and incredibly fun for the kids. Over the years, I’ve honed my skills in planning and executing these parties, and I’m excited to share my tips with you.
Tip #1: Plan in Advance
The key to a successful and cost-effective party is planning ahead. I make it a point to buy any last-minute needs at least a month prior to the event to avoid sellouts and to snag items at the cheapest price possible.
Tip #2: Decorative Tablecloths
Instead of splurging on fancy tablecloths, I opt for simple ones that I find on Amazon or Target. I turn these tablecloths into a party activity by providing crayons and markers, allowing the kids to unleash their creativity while also protecting the table.
Tip #3: DIY Activities
Every party revolves around a theme, so why not incorporate DIY activities that tie into that theme? A trip to the dollar store for paint and easels, DIY masks, or card-making supplies not only keeps the kids entertained but also adds a personal touch to the party.
Tip #4: Printables
Pinterest is a treasure trove of printable activities that require nothing more than crayons or markers. I love finding easy and engaging printables that enhance the party experience without breaking the bank.
Tip #5: Snacks
While I may not be the best at DIY snacks, I still ensure that the party snacks align with the theme or color scheme. By creating a snack board and limiting sweets, I prevent overeating and keep costs low.
Tip #6: Balloons/Backdrop
I’m a firm believer in reusing decorations. I have a versatile rainbow backdrop that I simply rearrange to suit each theme, serving as the perfect backdrop for memorable photo moments. Plus, it doubles as drapes, saving even more money.
Tip #7: Goodie Bags
Goodie bags can quickly add up in cost, but I’ve found a solution at the Target dollar spot. I pick up small trinkets that align with the theme of the party, whether it’s Halloween, Christmas, or Valentine’s Day, all for under $5.
Tip #8: Budget
Setting a strict budget for each party is essential. I never allow the total cost to exceed $50, even with four kids to cater to. By making use of dollar store finds and budget-friendly stores like Five Below, I’m able to stick to my budget without sacrificing the fun.
By following these tips, I’ve been able to throw affordable and memorable holiday parties for my kids year after year. Whether it’s Halloween, Christmas, or any other holiday, with a little creativity and planning, you too can create magical moments for your children without breaking the bank. If you’re ever in need of theme ideas or where to find party goodies, feel free to reach out—I’m always happy to share!
